Stoat Snippets provide the latest updates from the Orkney Native Wildlife Project.

As we head into the stoat breeding season, we see an expected drop in the number of stoats removed compared to February 2025. Despite this, our number of trap checks is higher in March 2025 than it was in March 2024 - so the drop in stoats removed could also be attributed to a shrink in their population as our network becomes more intense.

Folk in West Mainland saw and reported the most stoats in March 2025 (12 in total). The same amount of stoats was also removed from West Mainland.

We would like to thank our community for their incredible effort and support, our volunteers, and the project team.
